Coax to Micro-strip Transitions
Coax to Microstrip Transitions (CMT) are used to interface coaxial connectors with printed circuits (Microstrip or Coplanar Waveguide).
Often times the testing of a prototype requires only a few test iterations. Coax to microstrip transitions are very useful when the Engineer needs to verify new designs in a quick, accurate, and economical manner.
The ICM CMT enables the user to quickly and inexpensively build a test fixture. By using these transitions as building blocks, the user is able to quickly build up mounting blocks for a wide variety of microstrip input/output lines. (Note – These transitions may be used later on other test fixtures, allowing cost to be spread out over multiple projects). ICM offers many different transition styles in two main body styles.
1) “Wide Body” style offers two mounting slots for attachment of the transition to the test fixture. These Transitions are specifically designed for use with the ICM Midsection Adapters, but can be used in many different applications.
2) The “Narrow Body” offers one mounting slot and a much narrower body for placing multiple transitions in close proximity to each other.
The Wide Body can accommodate a wide variety of connector types where as the Narrow Body is limited to the APC 3.5mm, APC 2.4mm, K, and SMA connectors.
The following connector series are supported on the ICM CMT:
Conn Series/Max Freq/Gender
APC-2.4 /40 Ghz /M,F
K /40 Ghz /M,F
APC-3.5 / 35 Ghz/M,F
SMA /26.5/ Ghz/ M,F
APC-7 / 18 Ghz/ None
Type N /10 Ghz/ M,F
7/16 /6 Ghz /M,F
By following a few simple guidelines during fabrication, the entire fixture can be calibrated out for more accurate testing of the Device Under Test (DUT). External TRL Calibration Kits are available in 10, 15, or 25 mil thick Alumina. Custom substrates may be accommodated as well.
